What Happens When Your Car Breaks Down 230 Miles Away from Home
You lose a lot of sleep, a lot of money and a lot of time.
Hello, and welcome to part II of :
When we last met I was in a car that did not have a “primary display”1 in an underground parking lot and a pissed-off wife.
Things were going well, because we had OnStar. For those of you that don’t know - the car manufacturers have figured out another way to get more money out of you by selling you a monthly subscription to use the features that are already came your car, like….something called a warranty?
After calling the folks at OnStar 4 different times for various reasons, we finally got a very nice tow truck driver2 who took care of getting our car to the dealership for repair. He even waited for us to get into the Uber so we could continue going to the hotel.
We arrived at the hotel at 1am. Not great, but could have been worse.
This morning, I am up early in the am and on the horn with the dealer where I express that I am 230 miles away from home and they need to get this fixed tout suite so that we can have a car again and get out of Dodge
One of the better things about being older is you know when to be nice and when to get a little louder to get what you need and today I used the nice/loud technique to get our car display repaired by 3:30 pm on a Friday.
BW spent all her days conference-ing and I spent all most of my day trying to plan the best/cheapest way to get us home before next Friday
Tonight I was BW’s date at the conference dinner and now I know all there is to know about Bolivia. (or Brazil - i forget) and here I am at the Hampton Inn writing this post in California, PA and missing the quiet times when I am home and have nothing to write about
To summarize:
Cars break down. Warranty repairs are nice
We’ve been in more Ubers than we can talk about
We are in the middle of nowhere
Your wife will eventually calm down about the car.
We can’t wait to get back home safely.
Keeping it interesting - and your local Chevrolet dealer busy with warranty work,
TH an Co.
today I learned that’s what it’s called.
handsome too - at least that’s what BW tells me.
