Yet ANOTHER Snow Day Tomorrow
Lord help us.
Today was MLK Day - so no school. Okay, we can live with a long weekend. No problem.
Overnight we got some snow - about six inches. We’re in Buffalo people - we can deal with a bit of snow. The plows came and plowed the streets and then heck even my Amazon order got delivered today so we figured that she would go to school tomorrow because if I got my crap from China delivered then surely the School Buses would be running.
I was wrong. We are getting another day of no school
Here’s the email I received:
After closely monitoring the weather and travel conditions throughout the afternoon and evening, and in consultation with Erie County officials, local law enforcement, and our neighboring school districts, we will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday, January 20th) due to the combined impact of the winter storm.
You Guys, this will be Day 4 in a row with the child at home
Oh, sure you say - You’ve got it easy Tidy, because you don’t have a real job 1, and how hard can it be?
Glad you asked:
Today I had some string taped up and placed over my head where I was her “dog” and I had to walk behind her like a dog would. She wanted me to walk on all fours, but I told her “Don’t push it, Bub”
I have danced to videos and played pretend store and have answered to the question “Hey Dad” more than anybody should in one day.
We then had a full on meltdown because she wanted to do her homework before bed. What kind of child cries about not doing homework?
Then there’s the “I’m bored” thing. We are all bored because even the adults would like an hour to concentrate on something rather than getting tape for a new project, or having yet another tickle fight or whatever very important thing needs to happen right now - and no you can’t go outside.
Then there’s the dog. The dog was pacing around also complaining about the lack of entertainment as well - so I gave the dog a bone2 and that would keep at least her satisfied.
Nope. The dog wanted to take the bone outside, but I refused because it’s a freaking snow storm out there and then it would not remember where it buried it. It whined, complained, placed the floor and then finally I caved and let the dog outside.
So ya. It’s been a day.
If there’s any good news in this is we finally figured out the Nintendo Switch and she played for an hour or so. There’s complaints about it being too hard and we tell her that’s the point and she gets frustrated and stops.
We also couldn’t figure out the buttons completely but it turns out that Dad had the protective case on backwards and once we figured that out it we were golden3. We still have no idea how to play the games but she’s smart and she’ll figure it out.
She played some trolls game and a bit of Pac-Man but I think the Pac-Man game is too complicated for her. She has 3 games in total and has played one for an hour and she’s already told me she wants her next game to be Minecraft. I told her let’s figure out how to play the ones we have before we go adding any more games.
So we’re all a little testy here for different reasons but mostly the fact that we’re not supposed to have all this family time. We can’t handle all this family time. I had thought about bundling her up and tossing her outside to play in the snow but it’s too cold for that so it looks like we’re all stuck with each other for yet one more day cooped up inside.
That Groundhog better predict an early spring is all I’m saying because I don’t think anybody in this household has another patience for another six weeks plus of winter or another day with each other.
We can’t handle all this family time. love
Stay Warm,
TH and Co.
It’s a skill.
hat tip to AC/DC
oops!
