The dog had an interview today.
I don’t know if the dog’s old daycare went out of business or what, but I do know that there’s a for lease sign on the front door and that’s never a good sign.
This left us without any dog sitter. In a real pinch we could ask a neighbor to come over and let the dog out but we had nobody lined up for events or if we need to get out of town for a few days for holidays or wedding or something.
Of course, thanks to BW this became MY JOB with finding a new sitter. Here’s the problem: We can’t send the dog to any daycare where they just toss them all in a big pen and let them sort it out.
Our dog is special. She’s the neediest dog ever but hasn’t been socialized much with other dogs so there’s been no practice on how to behave and it’s too late to start now. 1This means I can’t just call the local doggy day care and pay them the monies like we did with our previous dog.
So, I found an app called Rover that is like Airbnb but for dog sitters and I found a very nice lady 20 minutes away. She was very responsive to my query and that’s a good start. The prices are reasonable and there’s a lot less paperwork.
Previously, I tried to get the dog lined up with a local doggy hotel and they wanted paperwork after paperwork and signatures galore. It was ridiculous.
This rover app was a lot easier: A few text messages and we made an appointment for this afternoon for her to meet the dog and see if she passed the sniff test.
Thankfully, the dog was on her best behavior and once the initial skittish reactions died down she was in love with her new doggy daycare sitter and the interview was a success and now the dog has a sitter for future events.
I guess you could call it love at first sniff.
Until Next Time,
TH and Co.
You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, after all.
