The Dresser
It's kind of ugly, but it works.
BW was surfing Facebook and found this dresser for sale:
The child was in dire need of a new dresser so this works. It’s just good old chipboard but it’s pretty cheap and it’s BIG for all her clothes because the dresser she had was designed for onesies and not for big girl clothes.
So, BW goes to pick it up and it won’t fit in the Car. But despite what the news says there are good people in the world and the seller said he had no problem delivering it today. This is a pretty nice gesture as we’re about 20 minutes away.
The fellow arrives, I hand him the money and we take the dresser to the front hall. He leaves - he’s done.
BW and I struggle to get it up the stairs because it’s heavy chipboard full of glue and the only thing I’ve lifted recently was my coffee cup. But, we manage to get it upstairs and after a few attempts we get the drawers in the right slots and BW fills it with clothes and there’s still empty drawers which is awesome.
I take the child’s old dresser where the drawers kind of work after being yanked on by tiny hands of destruction for 6+ years - and turn it into my tool dresser in the basement:
Perfect - it’s an upgrade from the coffee tins I was using to store my screwdrivers. I feel like Red Green now that I have all my tools and stuff better organized.
Done, right?
wife happy
child happy
dad happy
It’s a hat trick of happiness when it comes to dressers.
Until later tonight, I’m about to hop in the shower after the child has been put to bed and all of sudden I hear tears and crying. BW goes to check and the child tells her:
“I miss my old dresser!”, with tears down her cheeks.
She wants the old one back. BW tells her that it’s too late and that she can visit her old dresser downstairs anytime she wants, but it’s too late and too small. After some hugs and more explaining, the child settles down and she’s asleep and the dresser upset is over.
We did not see that coming.
Tonight’s lesson: Don’t f*** with the furniture.
You have been warned.
