I don’t know what it is about kids, but boy do they like to run around in circles - especially if you’re chasing them while they are in their little pink PJ’s just before bed.
When BW told me she wanted a child and the pitter patter of little feet, I am not sure she had this in mind. I think she was thinking cute baby and not the part where she wonders if the child will ever go to bed?
Well.. guess what BW? You get the whole package.
You see, I have an excellent skill with our daughter that BW hates - and that’s the fact that I get her “all riled up” just before bed.
Why? Because I am the fun Dad, that’s why. It’s my job.
Tonight’s fun started with trying to get her off the couch as she was resisting bed so I grabbed her toes and gave them a squeeze. Of course this turned into a game which turned into running which turns into me/us getting yelled at by BW that it’s bedtime.
I call this The Circle.
BW HATES that I do this, as just seconds ago the child was rubbing her eyes and begging for bed and somehow in the last 30 seconds I have managed to get her higher as a kite on dopamine and running around in circles in the house.
At one point, I just stood and watched while the child was break dancing in our kitchen using the glass door of the oven as a mirror to her funky moves and as all that is happening, the dog gets super excited and is in mid-air with a neon green sock in it’s mouth.
Did I mention BW loves this?
After a bit more fun sock jumping and break dancing I managed to get the child settled down and in the bed. Tonight at least she seemed to realize that we were both on borrowed time here and partners in crime, so she had better behave and stay in the be if she wants to get away with some more shenanigans in the future.
It’s these little moments like these I love, because what’s better than being in the kitchen on a cold October night and seeing both a six-year-old child break dancing AND a dog with a neon green sock in it’s mouth both in the air at the same time?
BW said she wanted a child.
She didn’t realize that the biggest one was going to be me.
