She's Stinky
What is that smell?
We’re at a crossroads here.
On One hand:
she’s young and sings in the bathtub and plays for hours on her own
she still sits on my lap
she’s just six
On the other hand:
she’s stinky. really, really stinky.
I had her on my knee after school as we were looking at the Scholastic Book Catalog for her book fair tomorrow and I’m getting a whiff of something…not pleasant.
At first, I thought it was the dog, but nope. The dog smells like a dog should
There’s no way it could be her - she had a bath last night and used half a bottle of BW’s shampoo in the tub.
But. There’s no way around this: my child stinks.
Let me rephrase that: she stinks after running around in a big and probably-too-warm winter coat with hat and layers and after a full day of school that included physical education and a hot steamy bus ride on the way home.
So after dinner - even though she had a bath last night - I told her she needed to do it again and this time use mommy’s real soap and wash herself well under the arms and any other parts that might need attention.
I showed her how to wash her armpits by rubbing the soap on the washcloth and then rubbing her armpits well.
Emphasis on the “well” part.
She bathed and played in the overfilled tub for a good hour before she realized the water was last remotely warm a good half an hour ago because she’s so wrapped up in her ponies and the fashion show they were having tonight.
After the bath and because we’re behind on the laundry after the holiday I put her in one of my old t-shirts as a nightie and as I was tucking her in to bed I gave her a good whiff and am happy report that the stink was temporary and she’s back to smelling like sunshine and ponies and unicorns and glitter.
We now have kid friendly non-toxic deodorant on the way because I can only have one stinky dependent in the house at a time and the dog has that spot currently taken - everybody else has to bathe regularly and use deodorant.
I have standards. They’re low, but they are still standards.
