A Summer Sunday in the Neighborhood Giving Away Ice Cream
All we did was try to give away ice cream sandwiches. It's harder than it looks.
Today was the day-before-summer-camp-starts day. We just had to get through it.
Instead, she made a new friend and we now know all the gossip in the neighborhood.
She has swam, got gifted crap from China, went to birthday parties and now it’s the calm before camp.
We still had like 60 ice cream sandwiches in the freezer so this was our second attempt at getting rid of some. We met a woman with a kiddo on her bike and it turns out they live just down the street and because kids can do this:
“You want to play?”
“Okay!”
And with that they were off swinging from the trees in the front yard and then picking all the “flowers” (weeds) from the front lawn. We had a nice chat with a real adult and that was nice too. She now has a new playmate who is the same age and goes to the same school.
If you want to know who’s selling their home and who’s retiring on the street we’ve got all that gossip too.
Today’s funny ice cream story: A young girl about 14-ish walked by and when we offered her an ice cream sandwich she lit up and accepted happily. We called out after her that bring friends! About a half hour later she came back with a young man about the same age and when he stopped his bike we offered him an ice cream sandwich and took off with her in tow.
“See, I told you so!” she exclaimed as they rode away.
Today’s lesson: It’s hard to give stuff away for free. The FedEx guy said no when he stopped by. If anybody we saw today looked like he needed free ice cream, it was the FedEx guy.
This is the last of the annual ice cream sandwich giveaway and she cleared another 8 dollars today in tips so she’s up 16 dollars for her college fun.
Me? I’ll be taking care of the leftovers. It’s a chore, but I will do it for my family. :)
I’m just trying to help out.
Until Next Time,
TH and Co.
